Crack the Code

about

Of all the tracks on the EP, this one comes closest to the weird cinematic funktronica I seem to gravitate towards. Usually a song written on guitar will feel slightly different than a song written on piano. Crack The Code was written on Logic. It wasn't based on any song structure thought out in advance, which is the way I usually work. I had no melody in my head, no hook or chord progression, no lyrics. Just an idea of a mood - darkly seductive - and a vague concept of love as a slowly intruding force. I wanted a piece of music that starts out very small, with just a rhythm box and a few repeating notes, and have it build from that.

lyrics

I watched you from afar
Playing hard to get
Rejecting without reason
The love you never had

Too proud to hide in shadows
Too shy to show your skin
I wonder what you're scared of
What secret lies within

Crack the code
I know you want me to
Unlock the thing that's holding you
Open up now, it won't hurt
Soon I'll say the magic word

You never needed anyone
Least of all a man
That's all about to change, girl
If only I knew when

One day I'll touch that weak spot
Then I'll reap what I have sowed
Your body grows impatient
I guess today I'll crack your code

Crack the code
I know you want me to
Unlock the thing that's holding you
Open up now, it won't hurt
Soon I'll say the magic word

I'm the breath against your neck
The chill running up your spine
Without you ever knowing
I made you cross the line

You'll open like a flower
And let the right one in
Pardon my intrusion
Let the games begin

One day I'll touch that weak spot
And then I'll reap what I have sowed
Your body grows impatient
I guess today I'll crack your code

Crack the code
I know you want me to
Unlock the thing that's holding you
Open up now, it won't hurt
Soon I'll say the magic word

You are about to change, girl
Get ready for the change
